Social Distancing Requirements
  • Per the Ohio Department of Health orders for Senior Centers, no individuals shall be allowed through the designated entry point without a mask.
  • Anyone participating in programming inside the Wooster Recreation and Community Center must wear a mask at all times, except when actively exercising, eating and drinking. 
  • Individuals must be seated while consuming food or beverages.
  • At least 6 foot social distance should be maintained from other individuals when possible. 
  • Social Distance and COVID -19 awareness signage can be found throughout the building. Please look for and follow all signage in each area of the facility you are utilizing. 
  • The entrance for the Wooster Recreation and Community Center has been labeled with an Entrance ONLY and Exit ONLY signs. Please use accordingly.
Personal Hygiene Recommendations
  • Please sanitize hands upon entering the Wooster Recreation and Community Center.  
  • Hand sanitizer has been made readily available around the facility and handwashing stations are available in the restrooms areas.
  • Wash hands with soap and water for at least twenty seconds as frequently as possible or use hand sanitizer.
  • Cover coughs or sneezes by turning your head into your elbow when you cough or sneezing into a tissue then discard the tissue in the nearest trash bin.
  • Avoid shaking hands with others.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unclean hands. 
Building Sanitation

During open hours increased cleaning will take place every two hours:

  • Cleaning of all high touch areas to include but not limited to: door handles, light switches, sink faucets, pens, front desk countertops, workout equipment etc…) will take place using a CDC approved cleaning solution. 

At the end of each day, in preparation for the next day:

  • Cleaning and sanitizing of all high touch areas, tabletops, chairs, restrooms and kitchen areas using a CDC approved cleaning solution will take place.

Three times a week:

  • Sanitation machine will be used in the common area, lobby and restrooms.


  • Fitness Center will be cleaned and sanitized fully.


*Ionization sanitizing machine will be used on an as needed basis.

  • In various places throughout the building lists of COVID-19 symptoms are posted in an effort to educate all users.  
  • Signage has been posted in restrooms and around the building for approved hand cleansing /sanitizing methods.
  • Signage has also been placed throughout the building to direct people in appropriate social distancing requirements and room occupancies.
Entering Facility
  • ALL individuals MUST have a mask on prior to coming into the facility. 
  • We ask that all participants perform a self assessment and check their temperature and symptoms prior to coming into the building.
  • The Wooster Recreation and Community Center is required to maintain a daily log that includes the following:
    Names of each participant, city staff member and contractor 
    Telephone number 
    Time in/out of building 
    Activity participating in/job being performing
    Location of individuals in the building 

          This log will be kept on file with the Wooster Recreation Department for six months.

  • All individuals who are not pre-registered for a program must fill out a building check in sheet, and wait in line to be helped. 
  • Current programs that can be pre-registered for include:
    Fitness Center 
  • All participants must complete a one-time COVID-19 waiver form prior to participating in Wooster Recreation and Community Center programming. This will be kept on file at the Community Center.
Restrooms: Max Capacity 2
  • Restrooms will be limited to two individuals inside each restroom at a time.
  • If restrooms are full, please form a socially distanced line outside and wait to enter the space until room becomes available.
  • Masks must be worn inside.
Water Fountains/Bottle Filling Station
  • Participants and employees are asked to bring their own water bottles. 
  • Bottle filling stations are available. 
  • Water fountains will not be accessible.
Air Circulation
  • The use of ceiling fans will be limited. 
  • The use of wall fans specifically in the Fitness Center and any other location within the facility will be prohibited.
  • Interior doors must remain open at all times.

Required to wear face coverings except for one of the following reasons:

  • Facial coverings in the work setting are prohibited by law or regulation.
  • Facial coverings are in violation of documented industry standards.
  • Facial coverings are not advisable for health reasons. 
  • Facial coverings are in violation of the business’ documented safety policies.
  • Facial coverings are not required when the employee/volunteer works alone in an assigned work area. 
  • There is a functional (practical) reason for an employee/volunteer not to wear a facial covering in the workplace. 

*(Must provide written justification, upon request, explaining why an employee is not required to wear a facial covering in the workplace. At minimum, facial coverings (masks) should be cloth/ fabric and cover an individual’s nose, mouth, and chin.)

  • All staff must perform a daily symptom assessment prior to coming into work. Any employee that exhibits symptoms will be required to follow all protocol set by the City of Wooster Human Resources Division. 
  • Staff will check their temperature upon entering the building each day.
  • Per the Ohio Department of Health Guidelines the full-time staff of the Wooster Recreation and Community Center will be COVID-19 tested on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Staff has been trained on:
    Infection control
    Appropriate use of PPE and hand sanitizer
    Spacing/social distancing
    Sanitizing surfaces
    Facility procedures for COVID-19
    Other CDC recommended topics

  • At this time, participants unable to wear masks will not be permitted to enter the Wooster Recreation and Community Center.
  • Participants should be reminded about the risks of the spread of COVID-19 and the appropriate safety measures to take to protect themselves.
  • Any individual who is experiencing signs and symptoms of COVID - 19 must stay home and monitor their symptoms and seek medical assistance if necessary.
Suspected and or Confirmed Case
  • In the event an individual is suspected to be COVID -19 positive they will immediately be isolated and will be asked to seek medical care upon leaving the facility.  
  • The facility will:
    Shut down the space for deep sanitation.
    Work with the local health department to identify potentially infected or exposed individuals to help facilitate effective contact tracing/notifications, if possible. 
  • Upon receiving any positive test results from patrons and participants, the Wooster Recreation and Community Center staff will contact the local health department to initiate appropriate care and tracing when necessary.
Programs & Fitness Center


  • When standing in line, parties must stay 6ft apart.
  • Guests must be seated when consuming food.
  • All food, plates, napkins, utensils and other items must be served to each guest.
  • Self service of food is prohibited. 
  • Self service of beverages are permitted. 
  • The water fountain will not be available however the water filling stations (in the main hallway and in the fitness room) will be available.  
  • Buffets/cafeteria style serving is permitted ONLY IF served by event staff, catering staff.
  • No table and common area items are permitted (examples: lemons, straws, stir sticks and condiments)

Billiards: Maximum Capacity 2

  • Only two people will be allowed inside the Billiards room at any time. Anyone waiting to play must remain outside until the game that is taking place at that time is over. 
  • If someone is waiting to enter the room. Please be respectful and play one game at a time.
  • All players must maintain social distance from one another while playing (cue stick length or more) and wear a mask at all times. 
  • Any Community Center owned equipment used must be cleaned at the beginning of the program and directly at the end of the program.
  • Wipes will be provided by the Wooster Recreation Department and will be placed in all areas of the building where they will be needed.
  • The door to the Billiards Room must remain open at all times.

Fun Fitness / Strength & Tone / Tai Chi / Yoga / Zumba

  • Instructors will wear a mask until participants are in their designated positions/spots and fitness instruction begins. 
                  Instructors may remove their mask once they too are actively engaged in the workout.
                  If an instructor needs to assist a participant with an exercise they will need to put their mask back on prior to approaching the individual.   
  • Each room is set up with tape on the floor indicating appropriate socially distanced spacing for participants. 
  • Any equipment used must be cleaned at the beginning of the program and directly at the end of the program.
  • Wipes will be provided by the Wooster Recreation Department and will be placed in all areas of the building where they will be needed.


  • Daubers and disposable cards will be provided.
  • Daubers will be sanitized after each day.
  • Social distancing will be maintained with chairs previously set 6 feet apart. Please do not move chairs to sit closer to another participant. 

Table Tennis

  • One player at each end of the table. 
  • Doubles play will be prohibited.
  • Masks must be worn by all participants when waiting to play.
  • Sanitize hands before and after playing each game. 
  • No sharing of equipment.
  • Social distancing must be maintained

Farmers’ Market

  • All vendors must wear a face mask.
  • Sale of food limited to whole, uncut produce. All ready to eat foods are pre-packaged.
  • No sampling is permitted.
  • Surfaces are to be sanitized between customers.
  • New plastic bags have been provided to each vendor for patron purchases.
  • 6 foot spacing between each vendor.
  • One entry and one exit.

Fitness Center: Maximum Capacity 6  

  • Participants will be required to pre-register for designated workout times. 
  • No more than 6 people will be permitted in the fitness center working out at one time.
  • Do not use equipment that is located directly beside a piece of equipment already in use.
  • Participants will be required to sanitize all machines/cardio equipment before and after each use.
  • Wall fan units are not able to be turned on, ceiling fans are able to be used. 


Meals on Wheels

The following regulations were provided to Wooster Recreation & Community Center. 

  • Daily sanitizing of high touch surfaces to include:
  • All Counters in the kitchen
  • Tables in the kitchen, back of chairs
  • Drawer handles
  • Cupboard doors and doorknobs in the kitchen
  • All appliances including refrigerator,
  • microwave, dishwasher, coffee pot
  • All light switches throughout the building
  • All door knobs throughout the building
  • Bathroom fixtures, including toilet paper
  • holders, hand sanitizer, sinks and handles
  • Bathroom counters
  • Toilets (all porcelain surface and inside)
  • Resource room keyboards
  • Resource room desktops
  • Copier Station
  • Postage and Mail Station
  • Mailboxes
Programs Not Included in Phase One of Re-opening

Due to the high touch rate and number of people sharing equipment the following programs will not be offered:

  • Daily card groups 
  • Euchre
  • Mahjong

At this time the Senior Lounge will remain closed to the public. This room will be used as an area to send anyone who exhibits COVID-19 symptoms while in our building until they can be picked up.

What qualifies one as a resident of Wooster?

If one lives within the corporation limits of Wooster or an adult living in one's household works within the corporation limits of Wooster, he/she is considered a resident.

If I have a Wooster address, am I considered a resident?

Not necessarily, a Wooster mailing address does not mean you reside within the corporate limits of the city.

What is the City Subsidized Taxi Program?

The City Subsidized Taxi Program is for residents who live in the Wooster City Corporation limits. Qualification is based on an individual's household income and proof of financial assistance. Please call 330-264-8677 or visit Community Action for an application and more details.

What is your youth scholarship policy?

If a child, ages 2 - 17, lives within the Wooster City Corporation limits and receives free or reduced lunches or has a Medicaid card, the child can receive 50% or up to $20.00 off one of our programs once every brochure. A child can also receive a scholarship pool pass for $20.00. The lunch letter or Medicaid card must be presented at time of registration.

Do you need to purchase a membership to the Wooster Community Center in order to participate in its activities and events?

There are no memberships to the Wooster Community Center. You pay for what you would like to do. Some activities are free to those who are 50 and older. Please see our brochure for details.

How does the wait list process work?

If an activity is full, we can place your name on a wait list. You will ONLY be contacted if an opening becomes available. Payment is needed only if registration can be accepted. Please contact the Wooster Recreation and Community Services Department if you would like to be placed on a wait list. Individuals will be placed on wait list on a first come first served basis, and will be removed and placed in the program if spaces open up in the order they were placed on.
