MCTV will be rolling out 1 Gigabit (1000 Mbps or 1 Gbps) Excellerate fiber Internet service in Wayne County.
What is Excellerate fiber?
Excellerate fiber is MCTV’s newest service that is being rolled out across our service area. It is a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network that allows us to offer symmetrical Internet speeds. Excellerate fiber services provide symmetrical upload and download speeds for Internet. Excellerate fiber offers 1000 Mbps, 500 Mbps, or 200 Mbps download and upload speeds. This is especially important if your family uses multiple devices for multiple high usage activities like streaming, gaming and video chatting. Excellerate fiber lets you do all these things, at the same time, without sacrificing performance.
Excellerate fiber is built using a fiber-to-the-home construction. Fiber-to-the-home is exactly as it sounds. A fiber optic connection is delivered directly to your home from our headend. Our current system is a fiber to the node construction. This type of system delivers services over fiber to a point in your neighborhood. From there, it is sent to your home over a coaxial cable. There are many benefits to a fiber-to-the-home system, the biggest of which is the ability to offer symmetrical (same upload and download) Internet speeds.
What to expect in your yard?
Prior to construction in your neighborhood, you may notice flags and paint marking the location of some underground utility lines. A MCTV construction team will dig at the marked locations. If dirt is removed, it will be filled in. The fill will need to settle for 3 to 5 weeks to avoid sink holes. Topsoil and grass will be planted after the settling is complete. Our construction team will pull and splice fiber to your home, and once finished, all equipment will be removed from your yard.
When can I get Excellerate fiber?
Excellerate fiber is available on a rolling basis as construction is completed in each neighborhood. The construction of Excellerate fiber takes time and has been continuously worked on and completed over the past few years. It will continue over the next few years across our entire service area. Given the scope of the project, we cannot give exact dates for when it will be available in a specific neighborhood. When it is your neighborhood's turn, MCTV will install fiber-to-the-home along utility easements or underground to bring you Excellerate fiber Internet.
