Public Hearing II

A second public hearing to review the City of Wooster’s intention to apply for Federal funds from the State of Ohio’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Small Cities Program for FY 2018 will be held Monday, June 4, 2018, at 12:00 PM in the City Council Chambers of Wooster City Hall, located at 538 N. Market Street Wooster, Ohio 44691.

Requested Federal Funds

The City of Wooster proposes to apply for and utilize the requested federal funds as follows:

CDBG Allocation Activities: $150,000

Activity 1: Funding for Viola Startzman Free Clinic: $22,500.
Activity 2: South Street Parking Lot Acquisition, Building Demolition, and Parking Lot Construction: $127,500.
Activity 3: Fair Housing Services: No funds requested, these services are provided directly by the City of Wooster.

CDBG Critical Infrastructure Activities: $300,000

Activity 1: South Street Comprehensive Signaling and Intersection System Upgrades: $300,000
Includes replacement of critical signaling infrastructure for safer vehicle and pedestrian crossings.

CDBG Economic Development Funds: $2,450 Maximum Total

Allocation Activity 2: South Street Parking Lot Acquisition: Up to $2,450
Critical Activity 1: W. Henry Street & South Street Repaving: Up to $2,450

All proposed and alternative activities would meet the National Objective of benefiting persons of low to moderate income and/or remediation of slum and blight. Additionally, Wooster City Council will consider authorizing applications for the above projects at its first regularly scheduled meeting on June 4th, at 7:30 PM at the same location as the public hearing. The City must file its applications by June 15, 2018. 

Community Involvement

Citizens are encouraged to attend to express their views on the proposed activities. CDBG Allocation funds are appropriated funds for qualified activities, whereas CDBG Critical Infrastructure funds are competitive. Special auxiliary aids for handicapped persons are available upon request. At least five (5) days' notice is required prior to a meeting.
