Fire Prevention The mission of the Wooster Fire Prevention Bureau is to provide both fire and safety education to the City of Wooster. Our department has made a serious commitment to fire and life safety prevention through means of education by its utilization of the Bureau. The Bureau's goal is to provide a proactive means of fire prevention through education and inspection.
Prevention Bureau
The Fire Prevention Bureau enforces applicable provisions of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards, Ohio Fire Code, City of Wooster Municipal Code of Ordinances as it relates to life safety enforcement for the public and applicable portions of the Ohio Building Code. The bureau conducts annual fire inspections on all commercial and residential occupancies equal to three units and greater that is mandated by law. All bureau fire inspectors are state of Ohio certified firefighters and fire safety inspectors. Fire inspection personnel conduct specialized acceptance tests on fire protection systems. Such as automatic sprinkler systems, standpipe systems, fire alarm systems, fire pumps, hood suppression system and private fire service mains and appurtenances. The bureau also reviews all new and existing building plans for compliance with fire codes. The Fire Prevention Bureau is actively involved in the city by providing fire and life safety prevention education to all age groups within the community. The Bureau assists contractors in obtaining fire flow information for buildings. The fire marshal oversees bureau functions such as, special events, fireworks, fire saftey education, fire plan review and fire inspections.
